Fun Science Games
Science Kids- What more could you ask for... This link has games, experiments, facts, quizzes, projects, the list goes on and on... Most importantly they are really fun and kid friendly. There are different pages you can click on for the activity you are looking for, or there are different subject icons you can click if you are looking for something more specific including: Animals, Physics, Space, and Weather.
PBS for Educators!!
National Parks Lesson Plans and other Ideas
PBS for Teachers- Science pages
I love PBS for all of its wonderful resources that it makes available. The National parks page is one of my all time favorites because it features the Ken Burn's National Parks Documentary which is phenomenal. It also provides several different lesson plans, activities, and little mini trips that you could take which are all accompanied by mini movie clips that act as a hook for your students. The Science pages are also very cool, and can be narrowed down by age group. Again PBS provides different lesson plan ideas complete with worksheets, content standards and activity ideas. These might be fun if you wanted to build your own curriculum or if you want to assign your students with a certain subject and help them find resources to complete their research.
Skeleton Website-
This is actually a website called KidsHealth that consists of all sorts of kid friendly articles, quizzes, activities and movies about topics ranging from Illnessess and Injuries, Recipes (Healthy cooking), How the Body Works, Puberty and more. I used the How the body works link the most so far and it lets you pick the body part and then provides you with articles explaining how each part works and benefits you, along with activities that are body part specific. I think I would use this website mainly as a pre- and post-actvity starting off point.
This website is sort of like a store and a library at the same time. There are pages and pages of Science materials for teachers to purchase, and they are all categorized for easy navigating. There is also this expeiments page where you can click on different experiements and learn how to do them as well as the "real science" behind them. It is not a website that I would let my students loose with, but more of a resource for me.
Bill Nye- The Science Guy
Who doesn't remember Bill Nye and all his words of wisdom?? Now you can share him with your students. This website has video segments, articles, and the best part... HOME DEMOS! These are awesome because they list what you need to make little experiments at home like the ones Bill makes, and also how to make them with a description of the science behind each one... Very Cool!
A website that encompasses quizzes, experiments, games, puzzles, Mythbusters, and something they call the curiosity corner (where there are fun articles you can read). An example of one of the experiements is making acid rain, I think kids will really dig that. The website is very colorful and easy to navigate. There are fun icons and friendly pictures. The options on this website seem endless because there is just so much to choose from, but in a good way. Another feature that I appreciate is that the SHOP button doesn't automatically send you to the shopping webpage, it first asks if you are sure thats what you wanted to do. I think that makes it much more kid friendly because they would have to stop and think instead of just being taken to the alternate website.
This website isn't as visually stimulating as some of the others, but it is still very cool. It features detailed experiements and lesson plans too. There is a bunch of choices. Also located on this page is LiveCam which shows different science centers, zoos, and just cool stuff. There is a link to locate a science center near you, and a button for CuriousAbout? that has a bunch of sub-catergories that can be clicked on for further exlporation.
Endangered Animal TV
I envision using this site for a life science or biology lesson. It could be a hook or a resource library for my students. It might be fun to allow the students to pick an endangered animal to expore and on this site they could watch little clips and read some fun facts too. This website is not very detailed so I would need to tell them that this is just an ice breaker to introduce the animals, but further investigation would be needed.
Exploring The Planets
This page is more for fact searching than playing. But the facts provided are very cool. This page is very very easy to navigate and allows you to pick which planet, asteroid, or dwarf planet you want to learn about. There is a button that you can push that helps to compare the plantets and the different geological features found on each one. There is also information about the different voyagers that have traveled to the planets which would allow students to understand how science can help humans further explore our solar system.
